Grand Manan Food Finds: Isla Cocina and North Head Bakery

Updated: Apr 12, 2020

Pulled Pork Taco from Isla Cocina

We are always exploring Grand Manan when we come visit my Mom and Peter. We love it here. It is so beautiful all over the Island! This time we came over, I decided to check out Taco Tuesday at the new Mexican Food Truck called Isla Cocina. It is Grand Manan's first food truck. It had a lot of gluten free options on their menu.

Though I must say; I was a little skeptical when the waitress told me that my one taco I ordered was going to take 20 minutes to be prepared. I love trying new things though so I decided to just go with it. The service was very friendly there and she was very helpful and knowledgeable with my GF sensitivities. That is always so important to me!

Well, $2.30 and 20 minutes later I got my order and WOW! Was it ever worth it. It was DELICIOUS. The reason it takes so long to get your order is because the lady makes the tortillas fresh to order. Fresh is best anyways! The pork taco was perfect combination with pineapple for sweetness. I put a little hot sauce on top for a little spicy kick to it. It was amazing. I definitely would go back for more. If you're looking for a full meal though, I do recommend ordering probably 3 tacos or the meal deal with the tacos. One definitely wasn't enough.

For dessert, we stopped at the North Head Bakery. There isn't much but they do have a couple gluten free options there! The employees were nice and friendly. They seemed to take care in not cross contaminating products as well.

Gluten Free Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

I did find the muffins a little sweet but they were still very yummy. They were moist, not dry at all but they were freshly baked this afternoon so I'm not sure what they will be like in a day or 2.

The kids tried their gluten free rice crispy squares and they enjoyed those too. They were tender and yummy - not tough and too chewy like some rice crispy squares we have tried.

I highly recommend these places if you are ever on the island even if you don't eat a gluten free diet!
