5 Fruit Popsicle & Smoothie (With Possible Veggie Add ins!)

It's popsicle season and honestly you can create some very nourishing homemade popsicles for those kiddos so easily! This recipe doubles as a smoothie too. The kids eat them with their breakfast or snacks almost every day and I'm totally ok with that. The biggest bonus is that they don't contain any: food dyes, aspartame, sorbitol, high fructose corn syrup, artifical flavours, refined sugars, and all the other nasty ingredients that tend to be in popsicles out there that do not provide any form of nutrients or benefits at all! You can make it as a smoothie as well. I often double the recipe for smoothie and use the rest for the popsicle moulds.

5 Fruit Popsicle & Smoothie Recipe:

Ingredients:

1/4-1/2 Cup Liquid: Plain yogurt, kefir, a dairy free option may work as well or water (I use half yogurt or kefir & half water)

1/4-1/2 Medium Sized Orange

1 Cup Frozen or Fresh mixture of fruit: Peaches, strawberries, mango and pineapple

Dollop of Raw, Unpasteurized Local Honey

1-2 Tbsp Hemp Hearts

1/2 Tbsp Coconut Oil OR Flaxseed Oil

1/4-1/2 tsp Genestra Probiotic (Optional)

Add in possible:

Sometimes to get some veggies in I'll throw in a handful of spinach or a small handful of raw carrots! The spinach of course will alter the colour but the carrots are a nice addition.

I use my Vitamix so everything comes out really smooth. If you have a texture sensitive child such as my son and don't own a vitamix, you may want to throw the seeds in the coffee grinder first to make it smoother! Otherwise the vitamix is a GREAT investment for those texture sensitive kiddos and hiding all the nutrients you possible can. It pulverizes everything nicely. Place the liquids and seeds in the blender first (yogurt, honey, oil, hemp hearts) and the fruit on top. Turn it on high and let the magic happen! Usually does not take me longer than 30 seconds in the vitamix to get everything nicely smooth. Add a little extra water or liquid if it doesn't blend easily. I also prefer using frozen fruit over fresh fruit especially if I am serving it as a smoothie.

Pour into your popsicle moulds and place in the freezer! I highly recommend Zoku popsicle moulds. They are amazing and not difficult to get out of the tray at all. Well worth the expense.

Enjoy!
